In Coruna the young Karate athletes showed what they can do

Karate Gallery, 26 maj, 20235 juni, 2023

One of the most massive stages of the Karate1 Youth League was held in A Coruña (Spain).

It was attended by 2198 athletes from sixty-four countries, who fought for medals for four days, 2198 athletes from 64 countries of the world, including Budo Nord athletes, took part in the tournament. The tournament was a success for athletes wearing «Budo Nord» equipment.

Nyman Agnes from Sweden won the cadet kumite competition in the 47 kg weight category. This season is a real breakthrough for her: first, the Scandinavian won bronze at the European Championships in Larnaca, then won the first stage of the Youth League in Fujairah, and now again out of competition in A Coruña. On the way to the final, Nyman had five meetings, and in the decisive match she beat the hostess of the tatami, Moreno Camarena Irene, rising to the highest step of the podium.

Also, another karateka in «Budo Nord» equipment, Bugayov Maxim, became the champion. The Ukrainian competed among boys under 21 in kumite in the weight category up to 84 kg. He had not previously played in the Youth League, but showed the maximum result in his debut tournament. In A Coruña, Bugayov had five fights, and in the final fight he defeated Spaniard Gutierrez Marques Borja.

By the way, Bugayova’s gold medal helped the Ukrainian team become one of the trendsetters in the Youth League. In A Coruña, the team won nine top awards, the same as Spain’s assets.

Fernandes Ema Pinéu from Portugal excelled in kata competition among athletes under 14 years old, managing to win a bronze medal.

Another karateka of the Portuguese national team, Alves Rafael (67 kg), lost in the first fight to Yanovskyi Davyd (UKR). But since his offender reached the final, Alves had the opportunity to continue participating in repechage bouts. Rafael was able to win Kočandrle Dominik (CZE), but then with a difference of three points lost to Gamez Scioscia Gian (VEN) – 1:4.

The Irish O’Sullivan Ayla, who performed in the U-21 category in the weight category up to 55 kg, stopped a step away from the award. In the opening match, she beat Jakubovics Dalma (HUN), and then beat two Spaniards Zulueta Lopez Irati and De Las Cabadas Martin Lucia with a total score of 12:1. A further victory over Huber Lea (SUI) put O’Sullivan in first place in his subgroup. In the semi-finals, the Irish lost to Pazzaglia Anita (ITA) with a score of 2:5, and in the fight for bronze, Isla lost to Bitsch Mia (GER) with a score of 0:6. As a result – the fifth place.

A Coruña «Budo Nord»  was represented by participants from Australia, Denmark, Ireland, Portugal, South Africa, Sweden and Ukraine. Naturally, not everyone managed to climb the podium, and their path developed in different ways. For example, the Swede Haag Ozzy, who competed in U-21 in the weight up to 84 kg, started with a victory over Fajerbach Max (CRO), but in the next round he lost to the owner of the tatami, Gutierrez Marques Borja.

The competitions once again confirmed that karate occupies one of the leading places in the world of sports in terms of its popularity. And unequivocally, the Youth League is a great forge of talents that in a few years will declare themselves at an adult level.

The next Karate1 Youth League tournament is scheduled for June 29 – July 02 in Poreč (Croatia).
