The Danish Judo Championships 2025 turned the small lakeside town of Ry into the centre of national judo for a full November weekend. On 15 November, Ry Hallerne hosted more than 300 judoka from all over Denmark, all chasing the title of Danish champion under the banner “Ry Judoklub Danmarksmesterskab 2025”, organised jointly by Ry Judoklub and Judo Danmark.
From early morning, athletes, coaches and families streamed into the multi-hall complex. The local event listing in Ry described the championship as “a day filled with judo and community,” and that summed up the atmosphere inside the venue: four tatamis running non-stop, packed stands, and club banners from every corner of the country.
A national meeting point in Ry Hallerne
The choice of Ry Hallerne as host arena gave the championships a true “judo festival” feeling. The setup followed the now familiar Danish model: registration, brackets and schedules handled through Smoothcomp, while Judoinfo and JudoTV provided live results and streaming for those following from home.
Smoothcomp listed around 315 registered athletes for the main DM event – a strong field for a single-day national championship – and social media posts from participating clubs spoke of “more than 500 participants” in Ry across the weekend, counting both competitors and team staff. With multiple age categories and weight classes running in parallel, the schedule was tight but well-organised, and the local organisers from Ry Judoklub were widely praised online for logistics and hospitality.
Clubs chasing medals – and historic hauls
As always at the Danish Championships, club pride was on the line as much as individual medals. Jetsmark Judoklub, from North Jutland, summed up their weekend with the words “Største DM høst for Jetsmark Judoklub” – the club’s biggest national medal haul to date after what they described as a record turnout in Ry Hallen.
Holbæk Judo Klub also had reasons to celebrate. In one of the youth divisions, the club reported an all-Holbæk final, with Viggo taking gold and Kalle silver after a tight internal battle – a small but telling example of the competitive depth in many Danish clubs right now.
Århus Judo Klub shared photos of its “vinderhold” from the championships, highlighting a broad squad that reached the podium in several categories. In the start lists, names from across the country appeared: Brønshøj Judo Club, Svendborg Judo Klub, Mitani, Ry, and many more, underlining how national championships remain the key meeting point for Denmark’s judo community.
