adidas Combat Sports becomes Master Supplier of JJIF

Lovisa Andersson, 16 september, 202516 september, 2025

The International Ju-Jitsu Federation (JJIF) has entered a landmark partnership with Double D, the global licensee of adidas Combat Sports, appointing the brand as the official Master Supplier of the federation. The agreement aims to elevate ju-jitsu’s global profile while ensuring athletes compete with certified, high-quality equipment.

“This alliance ensures our athletes have top-level gear to support their safety and performance,” said JJIF President Panagiotis Theodoropoulos.

JJIF CEO Joachim Thumfart added that the collaboration “opens exciting opportunities to work closely with a leader in the sports industry and will help promote ju-jitsu to new audiences worldwide.”

Partnership details

As Master Supplier, adidas Combat Sports will provide competition-approved uniforms and gear tailored to JJIF’s official standards. According to Double D President Cédric Dermée, the partnership reflects “a shared ambition to grow ju-jitsu globally,” with products designed by athletes, for athletes and developed in close collaboration with practitioners worldwide.

Since 2005, Double D has held the exclusive global adidas license for combat sports, supplying gear for judo, taekwondo, boxing, MMA, and ju-jitsu in more than 100 countries. The company emphasizes innovation and sustainability, integrating feedback from elite athletes to ensure both performance and safety. With a strong focus on research and athlete-driven product design, adidas Combat Sports has become a trusted brand on the international stage, not only for equipment but also for its efforts in making combat sports more accessible.

About the JJIF

The International Ju-Jitsu Federation (JJIF) is the worldwide governing body for ju-jitsu, recognized by the Global Association of International Sports Federations (GAISF) and a member of the International World Games Association (IWGA). With headquarters in Abu Dhabi, JJIF oversees international competitions, rule deve

lopment, and global promotion of the sport.

JJIF manages multiple ju-jitsu disciplines, including:

  • Fighting System (a dynamic mix of striking, throwing, and ground techniques),

  • Duo System (pairs demonstrating self-defense techniques against set attacks), and

  • Ne-Waza System (closely linked to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, focusing on ground grappling and submissions).

The federation organizes continental and world championships, with ju-jitsu featured in the World Games, Asian Games, and other major multi-sport events. Over the last decade, JJIF has expanded into more than 100 national federations, reflecting the sport’s growing popularity across Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas.

A growing sport with Olympic ambitions

Ju-jitsu has undergone rapid internationalization since the 1990s. Originally rooted in traditional Japanese martial arts, the sport has developed into a highly codified and spectator-friendly competition format under JJIF. The federation’s long-term vision includes not only global expansion but also positioning ju-jitsu as a potential Olympic discipline. Partnerships with globally recognized brands like adidas are seen as crucial steps toward achieving this goal, bringing credibility, visibility, and consistent quality standards.

Strategic significance

This partnership with adidas Combat Sports signals JJIF’s commitment to professionalize and standardize equipment at the highest level of competition. With adidas’ global recognition and Double D’s expertise in combat sports, the collaboration is expected to strengthen ju-jitsu’s visibility on the international stage and support the federation’s long-term goal of bringing the sport closer to Olympic inclusion.
